The Home Depot – Tool Rental
An iPad application for in-store employees to assist with fleet truck rentals.

Challenge
One of the biggest issues employees were having during contract creation was transaction times. The system they were using was inefficient as it took too long to help each customer, especially when the Tool Rental Department was busy.
The lengthy process that employees performed included looking up the customer, creating a contact, and stepping outside to inspect the vehicle for damages before coming back inside the store to complete the contract.
This caused some employees to come up with workarounds including skipping inspecting the vehicle at all, causing uncertainty on whether or not the vehicle was in proper condition before renting to customers.
Solution
Once we found this out, we held an ideation session to brainstorm solutions to help with this problem. Ultimately we decided that an iPad version of the system would help with transaction times. This way they could complete the transaction without having to return in store helping to cut transaction times overall. This way the employee could bring the iPad along with them to inspect the truck and complete the contract all in one place.
